Energy harvesting is hard! | Smart Room Sensor V3 | epaper | ZBS243

After creating two epaper display PCBs in the last two videos I decided to reuse the ZBS243 microcontroller that already comes with the display. So I had to integrate the BME280 temperature and humidity sensor, which was already challenging. To take it up a notch I decided to use energy harvesting and a tiny solar panel to power everything. Hello, found this video via one of your instructables. I know basically NOTHING about electronics. Can only sortha read very very basic schematics. I've been looking for help for a project I am working with that I would like to have battery backup. To provide the power to my project I am using a very similar schematic, and in different electronics forums they keep telling me my setup won't work as I intend. The main issue seems to be with the battery. I am being told batteries can't be charged and have a load at the same time, that this puts it in "floating" charge something like that. I was under the impression it wouldn't have a load unless the MOSFET gate triggered, but seems that is not the case. That even when MOSFET is off it still puts enough of a load to confuse the charging circuit not to know when the battery si full, which is what they refer to as floating I think. So basically the experts (folks that do most of the replies at electronics forums) say even though it seems everything is working fine, the fact that is left in that floating stage it can cause issues in the future. Best case scenario you just kill your battery sooner, but worst case scenario the battery can explode.x What are your thoughts ?

    • @enwi
      @enwi 17 дней назад

      Sorry for the late reply. If you disconnect/bypass the battery while charging using a MOSFET or else I think it should be fine.

  • @SodAlmighty
    @SodAlmighty 2 месяца назад

    Your circuit may work, but this is by accident rather than design. One does not simply walk into Mordor; and one cannot simply turn a MOSFET upside down and expect it to function the same. It is said that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. But nowhere near as dangerous as a whole lot of ignorance.

    When the oscilloscope shows a time of 2ms it does not mean that you have upgraded to 200MHz. According to your video you haven't done any backup systems and you are just dreaming about whether the 200MHz upgrade works. You don't test anything at 200MHz and how should we trust you? Anyone interested in this issue of the Hantek 5000 series oscilloscope upgrade can find complete information in Tony Albus's channel, including the leading edge and frequency width tests. I have a Hantek DSO5072P and managed to upgrade to 200MHz, so it works in 2024.

    Hi, I only get this when trying to compile: "Compilation error: SerialCom.h: No such file or directory" any ideas, using Arduino IDE? I know I had this same issue about 1,5 years ago and at the end went with ESP Home instead that worked fine. Now I want away from ESP Home because of the time it takes for every update and this is the only ESP Home unit left to migrate. I hope this is some silly issue I dont get, I have not used Arduino before this project.

    Thanks for this video . I am thinking about purchasing the Bambu Lab X1 Carbon. I too have an ultimaker 2+ ( bought in 2016), which I like because it almost never fails to print and I have done 24 hour print time too. The print volume is not much different. The ability to print at a faster speed is always a positive, The nozzle change to a different size seems easy enough although more expensive than the UM2+.(UM2+ simply unscrew the nozzle only). What is that printer build plate you are using?, It is difficult to find one that fits the um2+.

    I know this has been up along time. Just saying that I have a program that controls the fan speed with a PID function, that will keep the CPU temp within plus or minus 1° C and stay quiet (unless I'm watching videos and such!). I'm cleaning up the code, I'll post it on github in a week or so PS: actual speed of the fan is immaterial. Temperature is all that matters. If it is hotter than you want it, increase the duty cycle, that's it . My PID function will operate in direct or reverse, use a position or velocity equation for the derivative calculation,, and use the square root of the input for calculations (some sensors change readings as a Sq root function (flowmeters based on pressure drop)) and also just cut off output (but still do the calculations).

    Here is my brutally honest review of the two companies. I have owned an Ultimaker S5 Pro with air handler and material station. I also own the X1 Carbon. (Plus tons of other printers purchased and built over the last 15 years) There is no comparison between the two. The S5 was a nightmare for dimensional accuracy. The Ultimaker software prevents any reasonable calibration / fine tuning of dimensional accuracy. The S5 might be acceptable if you want to print frogs and Christmas ornaments but factor in the cost and there is absolutely zero upside. Multi part models with close fitting parts? Forget the S5. On the other hand the BBL X1 excels in so many areas. An AMS that works as advertised? YES! Super fast print speed! YES! Great quality prints! YES! Reliability? YES! Reliability with other filament manufacturers? YES! Dimensionally accurate parts? YES! By far the biggest difference between Bambu Labs and Ultimaker is the quality and functionality of the software. I would compare the Ultimaker software to a dumpster fire and the Bambu Labs software to a seasoned Apple product. It just works. It seemed like with every software update Ultimaker would break something else! Here is a lesson for Ultimaker that Bambu Labs seems to understand from the beginning. Software quality is JUST AS IMPORTANT as hardware quality! Thank you BBL for making the printer of our dreams and continuing to develop the firmware / software! The latest 1.03 firmware update was an awesome surprise! PLEASE BBL IM READY FOR A LARGE FORMAT X1 CARBON!

      Agreed. Have S5 and 2 x P1P's. P1P's blow the S5 out of the water. S5 pros - you can get good quality, albeit slow prints with a lot of CURA tweaking. S5 cons - touch screen is garbage. Finicky add ons that cause failed prints due to very minor errors. Garbage UI. Garbage camera. Way overpriced. Harder to find 2.85mm filament. UM overcharges for their filament. I used to like the S5 before I tried the P1P. Now I see that I got ripped off. Ultimaker deserves to fail as a company.

      Really interesting to read yours and Andrew H's comments, i have a S5 and have been happy (ish) with it for 4 years, however it always felt over priced and too slow, 2.85mm filament is rubbish, Cura is messy, the UI is garbage on the printer, no print info, not even temperature info displayed without going into a sub menu... etc etc, i was thinking i would get a X1C, now i def will. Only downside would be slightly reduced build volume. How have you guys found the slicer and smaller build volume ? thx
